Red in Vogue collection edition: Vogue archive photos with red as one of the main palette colors

On October 29, the new collection edition of Vogue, Red in Vogue, will be released. Archive photos from Condé Nast and the Russian Vogue will tell the history of the red color in world fashion.

Red is a color of passion, power and fire. As soon as fashion photography gained color, red was one of its most popular shades. The collection edition of Red in Vogue will help see red in a different light and understand what it symbolized and when. Red lipstick as a symbol of seduction. Red dress as a symbol of appeal and aggression. Blood as a symbol of sex and death.

“In Russian culture, red has additional meanings. First, the Russian word for “red”, “krasny”, means beautiful, from a pretty lady (“krasnaya devitsa”) to Red Square (“Krasnaya Ploshchad”). Second, the red color is often associated with Russia, revolution and the Soviet Union. Therefore, Russia is one of the major themes in Red in Vogue. I hope you enjoy this edition,” Editor-in-Chief Victoria Davydova said.

Red in Vogue is an actual ‘red book’ of most valuable examples of what fashion photography’s past and present. The collection edition displays over 140 photographs by masters of fashion photography. The magazine displays classical masterpieces by Horst P. Horst, Helmut Newton, Irving Penn, Henry Clark, works by Patrick Demarchelier, Mario Testino, Steven Meisel as well as photographs by young modern photographers. There are also works that went down in fashion history and Vogue covers from across the world since 1940 until the end of 2015. Cindy Crawford, Linda Evangelista, Natasha Poly, Diana Vishneva, Monica Belucci and Natalia Vodianova are the models and muses of the red collection edition.

Red in Vogue will continue the collection of the earlier released special editions, including Dance in Vogue (2011), Nude in Vogue (2012), Russia in Vogue (2013) и Cinema in Vogue (2014). The edition is limited.
