For the first time the words “Gentlemen’s Quarterly“ had appeared in 1957 on the cover of Apparel Arts ,the oldest magazine for men. Initially, simply informing readers about the fact that it was a magazine for men, published once every quarter. But fairly soon a two- letter acronym – GQ has acquired special meaning, especially after 1983, when the magazine was bought by Conde Nast Publishers and Art Cooper was put in charge of the editorial board. Soon after that GQ had turned into a trendy publication focusing on megalopolis life-style.

GQ came to Russia in 2001 and very quickly attracted almost 200 000 readers, mainly due to its close affiliation with the best authors and photographers from all countries and continents.

The Russian GQ regularly publishes articles by prominent contributors as Victor Erofeev, Edward Limonov, Grigory Revsin, Dmitri Bykov, Ksenia Sobchak, Tony Parsons and Edrian Gill. It portrays high-profile personalities from show-business, politics and business like Ramzan Kadyrov, Arkady Dvorkovitch, Sergey Shoigu, Mikhail Fridman, Anatoly Chubais, Mikhail Prokhorov, Vladimir Potanin, to name a few. Serious caliber of writers and their heroes plus a very high class of journalism had turned GQ into an influential publication, clearly standing out in the crowd of numerous glossy editions.

Since 2003 the magazine runs the “GQ’s Man of the Year” nominations, the winners of this title are decided by the readers’ vote. In different nominations the most outstanding men of modern Russia, who can be rightly called “Heroes of Our Time” pretend for this award. In different years this award was nominated to Vitaly Klichko, Konstantin Ernst, Edwadr Maksimiov, Aleksadr Ovechkin, Mikhail Kasyanov, Leonid Parfyonov, Aleksei Venediktov, Boris Akunin, Fyodor Bondarchuk, Gus Hiddink, Eugeny Mironov,Vladimir Sorokin.

Since 2005 GQ publishes the rating of “100 most stylish men of Russia and the World”, selected by the jury of fashion editors, designers, photographers and high-life producers.

20th of December Igor Garanin has appointed as Editor-in-Chief of GQ and GQ Style magazines.
